I was diagnosed with acute biphenotypic leukemia on November 16, 2018. Since then, I have been on a journey of healing.  I have undergone enormous amounts of treatment. I was fortunate to have a match for my bone marrow transplant that happened on March 14, 2019. June 28, 2020 - Five months ago on January 28, 2020 just as the Sun touched the 11th floor of the Women's Tower at AdventHealth Orlando, the Love of My Life Selena took her last earthly breath and her first Heavenly Breath! Remember that according to the Book of James in the New Testament, "this earthly life is but a vapor!" Make every moment count and always tell those you love that you love them often!

June 21, 2020 - This is my first Father's Day without the "Love of My Life". Saying it's been hard would be an understatement, but I am thankful for God giving me the strength I need to keep moving forward. There is always plenty to be thankful for, but we have to choose to see it. We have to choose to live in His Presence, His Peace, His Grace, His Love, and His Power that will get us through anything we face in this life. As written in James 4:14 - "whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away." Make every moment count! Happy Father's Day to all!

June 13, 2020 - This is something Selena told my Mom a couple of weeks before she went to heaven - "Mom, if this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. I have learned that almost nothing I thought was important is. But, if God is asking me to suffer so that only one person comes to the Lord, then I am willing. Tell them, Mom, tell them." This was the heart of Selena! This quote came from an article my Mom wrote found @lindadowning.com, titled, "Coronavirus in a Pressure-Cooker World." You should check it out and read the entire article. It is well worth your time to read.

May 10, 2020 - Happy Mother's Day to all the Beautiful Mothers out there! You are all very special! Happy Mother's Day to my Wife in Heaven!✡️😎🙏🐻✝️❤️

May 10, 2020 - From my oldest Daughter, Miranda - Happy Mother's Day to my Mama in Heaven! 🙏🏻❤️😇 Today is an especially difficult day because it is my first Mother's Day since Connor made me a Mama. I desperately wish you were here. Mother's Day will never be the same without you here to share it with, but the precious memories are forever in my heart. I am so thankful and blessed for every moment I had with you!

You were EVERYTHING a mother should be and MORE! You were so loving, giving, caring, patient, compassionate, outgoing, hilarious, fantastic in every way Mama (and "Ma-Bear") in this world. You were the most SELFLESS woman I have ever known. Everyone - no matter who they were - you put first. You always found joy in serving others! I promise to do my best to make you proud! Thank you for everything, my sweet Mama. I miss you so much and I love you forever! 💕

May 5, 2020 - It's been a little over 3 months since Selena left to be with Her Heavenly Father. I miss her now more than ever.  With that being said, she would want us all to "Occupy Until He Comes" as Jesus commands us in the New Testament. Whatever obstacle is standing in your way, continue to move forward and seek Him in all that you do.

April 9, 2020 - Today, I was able to hold and see the "Sassy Selena" lipstick that my Mom has. It is an absolutely beautiful shade of red that Selena would love. Dawn Lightsey, a close friend of Selena and me, owner of Southern Sass Cosmetics, Inc., did an outstanding job of creating the perfect shade of red for this lipstick. March 28, 2020 - Exactly 2 months ago, Selena went to live with Her Heavenly Father. To say that I miss her would be an understatement! However, I know that she would want me to go forward with a positive attitude! She would want the same for everyone else. Remember, Selena's greatest wish is that you would give your life to Jesus! March 14, 2020 - Today marks the one year anniversary that Selena received her bone marrow transplant from a 19 year old guy from Europe. She considered today as her "new birthday". During the transplant, all Selena did was worship the Lord as we listened to Kari Jobe. It was a beautiful day. Remember, Selena's greatest birthday wish is that you would give your life to Jesus! February 29, 2020 - I want to thank Dawn Lightsey, a very close friend of Selena and I. Selena and Dawn went to modeling school together when they were younger, and became great friends. February 28, 2020 - Selena and I thank everyone of you for making her "Celebration Of Life Service" absolutely wonderful! There were people giving their life to Christ, renewing their marriages, and those made aware of relationships that needed to be mended and restored. Giving your life to Christ, forgiving one another, and mending relationships were the most important things that Selena wanted for her "Celebration Of Life Service".  I know this because we discussed all of these things before she went home to live with her "Heavenly Father." We Love You All With The Love and Sincerity of Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, and the Prince of Peace! We Love You All - Casey and Selena

February 8, 2020 - Of all "Celebration Of Life Services" that I have attended - Selena's was the best I have ever been a part of - Selena and I are so grateful to each and everyone of you during this journey of a year and 2 months plus for all of your love, prayers, thoughts, and financial contributions! Selena's greatest wish is that if you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior - now is the time to give your life to Him! Selena's Obituary

Selena A Downing, age 43, went to be with her Heavenly Father on January 28, 2020. She was born in Arcadia, Florida to Larry and Sherry Walker, but grew up in Lake Placid, Florida. She was Miss Lake Placid twice in the early 90s. Selena excelled in home decorating, loved listening to her husband play his guitar and sing his songs, and enjoyed every moment with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Casey L. Downing of Sebring, Florida; children, Miranda A. Bixler (Chase), Gabriel L. Downing, and Samara A. Downing, all of Sebring, Florida; her parents; brother, Larry O'Neal Walker (Roxany) of Sarasota, Florida; sister, Felecia Walker of St. Augustine, Florida; and one grandchild, Connor Wesley Bixler. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sylvia Fisher.

A "Celebration of Life Service" will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 1:30 PM at Memorial United Methodist Church located at 500 Kent Avenue, Lake Placid, Florida 33852.

In Lieu of flowers, Selena's wishes were that donations be made to the Team Selena "Go Fund Me" page. This is found at the teamselena.com website. Donations may also be sent to Casey L. Downing, P.O. Box 7721, Sebring, FL 33872. Donations will be used to help the family during this time of transition.

January 30, 2020 - Selena's Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 8th at 1:30 pm - Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake Placid, Florida - 500 Kent Avenue, Lake Placid, FL 33852. January 28, 2020 - My Beautiful Love of My Life went to be with Her Heavenly Father at around 7:54 am just as the Sun appeared upon her window in the 11th floor of the Women's Tower at AdventHealth in Orlando, Florida. January 20, 2020 - We are waiting for an official confirmation for a clinical trial at Moffitt to combat the ongoing leukemia. Thank you so much for your ongoing prayers and support! January 9, 2020 - Selena was admitted to the hospital today. They are giving her fluids, platelets, and blood as needed. We hope to be accepted for a clinical trial treatment at Moffitt followed by a treatment in Orlando to try to combat the ongoing leukemia. Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. December 26, 2019 - Selena and I had a wonderful Christmas with family focused on the "Real Reason for the Season - Jesus Christ of Nazareth."  Selena was admitted to the hospital today for ongoing treatment to combat leukemia. Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. December 19, 2019 - Selena is coming home from the hospital tomorrow. December 14, 2019 - The doctors are aiming for Monday to repair the stent giving time for levels of sodium, magnesium, blood, and blood platelets to rise. Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. December 11, 2019 - Tomorrow Selena is having a stent between her liver and pancreas redone due to some Jaundice. Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. December 10, 2019 - This day marks the day that Selena and I officially "became a couple" way back in the early 90's so it's a special day for us. Selena was admitted to the hospital today at Advent Health Orlando (formally known as Florida Hospital Orlando). Hopefully, she will be able to come home soon. The doctors are working on their plan to treat her so she can regain her appetite and continue to progress toward "complete remission". Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. November 30, 2019 - Selena was in the hospital from Monday until Thanksgiving Day in the evening. She had to have a round of chemotherapy to try to combat leukemia that has come back into her lymph nodes. The leukemia is in many locations throughout her body in the lymph nodes. There is still some leukemia in the bone marrow and blood as well. Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. November 14, 2019 - Selena has been undergoing immunotherapy medication to fight the leukemia that has come back. It works by taking your immune system and fights the cancer cells. She only has about a week left on the medication. It has been a tough fight, but she is getting through it. October 26, 2019 - Selena is still doing well with her therapy and she has not had any crazy side affects - Thanks to the Lord Above! October 25, 2019 - Selena is still doing well with her therapy and her headache has subsided at this point. Her appetite is still not great, but she is not experiencing any nausea. October 24, 2019 - Selena's doing well with her therapy so far. She's had a bad headache today, and has not had a great appetite. However, these side affects are minor compared to what she could experience.  Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. October 22, 2019 - Selena went back to Advent Hospital Orlando for immunotherapy treatment - unlike chemotherapy - it does not kill everything - it targets the cancer cells! She will be in the hospital for 8 to 11 days, then return home to complete the treatment at home. This treatment is targeted at killing the leukemia that has tried to come back into her bone marrow. October 8, 2019 - Selena began her radiation treatment today for her pancreas. There will be 12 treatments in all, and then she will go to Advent Hospital Orlando in the Women's Tower to begin a treatment to get rid of the rest of the leukemia that is in her bones. Initially, I thought it was chemotherapy, but it is something else. The goal of the treatment is to destroy the leukemia that has showed back up in her bone marrow. September 27, 2019 - The doctors decided that radiation for the growth on the pancreas was the best way to go. I brought Selena home today. She will be home for about 2 and 1/2 to 3 weeks for outpatient radiation therapy. She will then go into the hospital for chemotherapy for about 2 weeks for the leukemia in her bone marrow.  Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. September 25, 2019 - Selena was admitted to Advent Health Hospital (Florida Hospital Orlando) today to begin chemotherapy to shrink the leukemia growth on her pancreas and to get rid of leukemia that has shown back up in her bone marrow. The bone marrow is only showing about 2 to 3 percent but needs to be taken care of. They will not be administering radiation as previously thought - only chemotherapy. September 21, 2019 - The surgeon was wrong in his diagnoses of lymphoma of the pancreas. It is actually leukemia. We are waiting on the results to see if it is the old leukemia or not. They will probably have to treat it with radiation and then chemotherapy of some type. Please stay praying and stay positive as Selena and I choose to stay praying and stay positive. September 20, 2019 - We are waiting for the official results of the biopsies taken from the mass on Selena's pancreas. Check back soon for further updates. As always, thanks to all of you for your love, prayers, and support! We love all of you - Casey and Selena!

September 19, 2019 - Selena had her procedure today. The results came back as positive for lymphoma cancer for the mass on her pancreas. The positive news from this is that it is curable through chemotherapy. The surgeon was elated that is was not pancreatic cancer which has a poor prognosis. We are waiting for the results of the biopsies taken for the type of lymphoma it is to determine the type of chemotherapy the doctors are going to prescribe. Check back soon for further updates. September 18, 2019 - Tomorrow Selena is having a camera look at her pancreas because of a mass that has showed up. It is probably just some infection that the doctors can remove due to the infection that showed up with the heart. This procedure will happen around 2:00 p.m. Be in prayer with faith! September 16, 2019 - Selena was admitted back into the hospital today. The incision where the doctor opened her up for heart surgery was infected. She also has jaundice and we are waiting for test results. She is back on strong antibiotics. Please keep praying prayer warriors! I will be updating this site often over the upcoming days! September 1, 2019 - Selena is home at last - after 9 and 1/2 months - she is home! We will now have to go to outpatient appointments in Orlando once to twice per week depending upon how her levels are in her blood when we go. August 29, 2019 - I want to personally thank everyone that has added me as a friend on Face Book. I am extremely grateful because I know a lot of you added me so you could keep up with the latest updates on  Selena! Thank You So Much!                               With Love and Sincerity, Casey

August 25, 2019 - Selena was home for the weekend, and I took her back to the Bartch Transplant House today. She should only be there until Friday when I pick her up. She will then be coming home for good - over 9 months later! Once she is home, she will be going once to twice per week to Orlando to have her blood checked. It takes a whole year from the transplant date (March 14, 2019) for her immune system to be fully complete.  Her and I are in great spirits and very appreciative for all of your love, prayers, and support! July 30, 2019 - Selena has been discharged from the hospital and is back at the Bartch Transplant House. She is on 2 antibiotics through September 1st to make sure this bacterial infection is destroyed! She is in great spirits and positive as she always is! July 28, 2019 - Selena is in a regular room now! Praise the Lord! She is breathing on her own without oxygen given to her, on a regular diet, talking well, and able to walk short distances. She had a 6 inch meatball sub today from Subway that I got for her! God is so good! She will be on antibiotics for awhile as we make sure this bacteria is zapped completely! She is in great spirits and very appreciative for all of your love, prayers, and support! Thanks to everyone! We love you all! Casey and Selena

July 26, 2019 - Everything is still going well. Selena is talking better and will be leaving the ICU room today to go to a regular room. Her drainage tubes are out and she is getting physical therapy to get her back to walking. She is in great spirits! Keep praying because the prayers are working! Thanks, Casey and Selena

July 24, 2019 - Selena is stabilized at this time, but still has breathing tubes in her. They felt like she needed one more day for her lungs to become clearer. They are going to try to take them out tomorrow on the 25th to see how she does. Stay praying with faith! I need all the prayer warriors I can have on Team Selena!  "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of a sound mind." Everything starts in the mind. July 23, 2019 - Selena is stabilized at this time, but still has breathing tubes in her. They are going to try to take them out tomorrow on the 24th to see how she does. Stay praying with faith! July 23, 2019 - Selena took a bad turn early in the morning at around 3:00 a.m. She stopped breathing and they had to reinsert breathing tubes and incubate her. They also had to perform electric shock 3 times to get her heart rhythm correct along with other meds to stabilize her blood pressure. Please pray with faith and not fear for her full healing. July 22, 2019 - Selena's breathing tubes have been removed. The physical therapist had her walking today. She is talking and is in "good spirits"! I am so thankful to God that "my girl" is recovering so quickly! Thanks to all who have been praying for her! 

July 21, 2019 - Selena has just gone through "Open Heart Surgery" to rebuild a heart valve, aorta, and had bacteria removed from her heart due to a bacterial infection that happened because of her trifusion catheter becoming infected. The surgery was successful and she is doing well right now. Please stay praying!

March 14,  2019 - Today, I received my transplant from a 19 year old male outside of the United States! I am so thankful for this young man who was willing to donate to me - a complete stranger to him. In fact, I am not even allowed to meet him for two years  - that's the law for donors outside of the United States. I will stay in the hospital while the nurses and doctors monitor me until my the levels in my blood are ready for me to transfer out of the hospital. When they give the clearance, I will live right near the hospital for a minimum of 3 months before going home. Thanks to all of you for your love, prayers, and support! We appreciate you! March 6, 2019 - I was admitted into the hospital today for "conditioning week". The day started with me being put under anesthesia to have a doctor put in a trifusion catheter for my hospital stay. This is where they will administer my blood transfusions, chemotherapy, and my bone marrow transplant. After I had the trifusion catheter put in, I was admitted to the Women's Tower at Florida Hospital Orlando. I'm on the 11th floor in Room 910 - the birthday of my husband, Casey, September 10th! Coincidence - not - a Godcidence - YES! At 4 in the afternoon I received my first complete body radiation treatment which lasted about 45 minutes. It is also no coincidence that I was admitted for "conditioning week" on Ash Wednesday. Thanks to all of you for your love, prayers, and support! We appreciate you! February 16, 2019 - A donor has been found! I go into the hospital on March 6th to begin my preparation for my bone marrow transplant with chemotherapy and radiation to prepare for my transplant on March 14th! After that, I will be in the hospital for about 3-5 weeks, then I will begin my recovery process at a private house near the hospital for about 2-3 months. February 7, 2019 - Tomorrow I am going to have another lumbar puncture at the infusion center in Orlando. February 1, 2019 - I am going into the hospital today for my 4th round of chemo for my blood along with another lumbar puncture. January 22, 2019 - My levels came up and I was able to come home today from the hospital for a little while. January 21, 2019 - I was not able to have my 6th Lumbar Puncture because my levels were not where they needed to be for it. I went to receive blood and platelets today. After the blood and platelets, my levels were still low so I had to be admitted to the hospital for monitoring until they come up. Thanks to all of you for your love, prayers, and support! January 15, 2019 - I will have my 6th Lumbar Puncture tomorrow on January 16, 2019. I am still waiting for the results of my 2nd bone marrow biopsy to make sure there is not any cancer still in my bones. Once again, thanks for your love, prayers, and support! January 12, 2019 - I completed my 3rd round of chemotherapy for my blood on Thursday. I am now home until my next round. The hope is to try  for the bone marrow transplant toward the end of February as long as I have a match. If I have a match, I will be in the hospital for about a month, and then I will live in a private apartment for about 3 or more months. Once again, thanks for your love, prayers, and support! January 7, 2019 - I checked back into the hospital today for about 5 days to begin round 3 of chemotherapy for my blood. I am also having an injection of chemotherapy to my spine in the morning on January 8th. I am overwhelmed with thankfulness and gratitude for all of your prayers and support! Thank You All so much for your generosity of giving to my Go Fund Me account and those that have given in other ways! You are all very much appreciated!

January 3, 2019 - Today's appointment went well. I had my 2nd bone marrow biopsy today to make sure there is not any cancer still in my bones. December 31, 2018 - I had a doctor's appointment today in Orlando to check on my blood levels. Everything looked great! I'm going back Thursday to have a 2nd bone marrow biopsy. I will be going back to the Florida Hospital for Women at Florida Hospital Orlando on Monday, January 7th for a 3rd round of chemotherapy for my blood for about 4 to 7 days.
